We live in a world of endless possibilities where technology has made distance seem negligible. It also brought several opportunities for earning revenue for families through use of amazing skills ranging from writing scripts/stories to coding to creating video content – the ideas are endless. There are so many opportunities that all one needs is to create a Business Plan, do research on market demands and accordingly start on building the project.
In this article, we will discuss some of the amazing ways to earn money online without investment in any schemes. It’s a great opportunity for people living in metropolitan cities like Mumbai, Delhi or Bengaluru where the cost of living is high to gain the best of both worlds – work experience and money.
CASE STUDY #1: INTERNSHALA
Internshala is a boon for people looking for work ex in companies like OYO, HCL and others for the purpose of improving their profile. Internshala is a very good portal connecting students to job/internship offers from several companies/startups with good stipend.
Travelling problem? No problem. There are also Work from Home opportunities available on the portal. All one needs to do is register yourself (Google/Facebook sign-in also available).
After you select to apply for a certain assignment, you need to give a description as to why you should be considered for selection. Do present a seriously positive side of yourself to be considered for the internship.
There are tons of opportunities ranging from Finance to Content Writing to Coding where you can gain experience in. The service is fast and the portal officers also send you notification in case of any discrepancies from the employer’s side.
The benefit of having multiple internships gives your profile a boost and your potential employers a message as to what your potential is and whether you are capable of working for their organisation.
CASE STUDY #2: YOUTUBE CONTENT CREATION
In one of my previous articles, I had stated how emergence of a video hosting site named ‘YOUTUBE’ led to an Entertainment Industry boom, giving rise to new age entertainers and Business people like Felix Kjellberg (PEWDIEPIE), Travel Vloggers Kara and Nate (their channel is called K X N) and Lilly Singh.(Canadian Entertainer).
YOUTUBE has brought forward a Business Model which has kept both consumers as well as its stakeholders happy and convinced. Popular channels with a seriously high subscriber base have the opportunity to register themselves for the GOOGLE AdSense program which enables your channel to generate revenue for you through display of ads based on a unique algorithm depending on your viewers’ search history.
For Instance, Alex wants to check out a video of PewDiePie and clicks on it. The ad shown before the video is that of a product ‘pimsleur language solutions’. Little does Alex realise that the owner PewDiePie is being paid for it.
Problem is that you need to promote your channel amongst your friends, social/friend circles, social media etc. to generate footfalls for your channel to make it popular. Uploading videos regularly is the key to keep your subscriber base up once you have started getting enough footfalls. Theory of Niche Marketing and Product diversification are some of the ways which can help you keep your channel up and running.
CASE STUDY#4: TEACH ONLINE
With the rise of online course marketplace sites like Udemy, Udacity, EduX, it open doors for several individuals having efficient technology at home to create video content of subjects they specialize in and sell them in such marketplaces, thereby providing benefit to several students across the world.
A huge boon for Financial students who require to go through several reference books, having an online video reference library always helps them grasp and maintain hold over concepts for a long term. Eminent faculties like CA Raja Natarajan, CA Raj K Agarwal have resorted to online Business to sell their content across the country through online marketplaces like ccionline, edukart etc.
If required, you can also teach by uploading your concept videos on Youtube.
CASE STUDY#5: SET UP AN ONLINE LIBRARY
This is something which I saw while on one of my missions in Noida, UP. While working at Amity University, I came across ads of a website titled :www.pustakkosh.com where students can sell their used books while others can rent books at a reasonable rate, especially expensive books from PEARSON. After all, rarely do you come across people who use their graduation study text for the rest of their life. Reason? Because Work life involves 30% of what you study (usual case).
Renting out books is another easy way to earn additional income as a side-business. Following are some of the questions which one needs to consider before setting up a website:
- What is your niche market?
- If students, then how many colleges are around your locality or how many students live in your community?
- What is your Product Promotion strategy?
- What should be the collection mix of your books as well as rental rates?
The above questions are sample and are written to help you understand the kind of thinking required to set up such a Business.
CASE STUDY #6: AIRBNB
With increasing cost of living, many travellers would definitely consider ‘Homestay’ concept of booking accommodation especially foreign travellers (Travel Vloggers Kara and Nate have been regularly using ‘AirBnb’ for their travels across the world).
In Mumbai and Delhi, there is a significant population having investment in Real Estate (You know…having more than one flats). Such families can rent out one of their flats on AirBnB or Mahindra Homestays for earning rental income from tourism industry. Its fast, easy, efficient and safe.
CASE STUDY #7: AFFILIATE MARKETING
With Affiliate Marketing you are rewarded for recommending and promoting products and services that you have on your blog/website or landing page. Or you can even leave a link to promote through your social media, instagram, twitter Facebook etc.
An affiliate site, affiliate marketing perhaps a site with a lot of content about a products, perhaps reviewing items such as gadgets, beauty products. with amazon affiliate links to the product.
A great example is Antonella. The uncensored reviewer uploaded a video to Facebook after she tried an exercise video. The video went viral and Antonella now has over a million followers on Facebook!
Antonella now produces lots of fun content to keep her audience engaged on both Facebook and YouTube to drive traffic to products that she recommends and I’m sure with this much traffic brands and companies are offering her high amount of fee’s to mention and promote their products.
OK, so not everyone is going to go viral after they review something. Breaking this business model down It’s about getting traffic to an affiliate link. A certain percentage of this traffic will buy something and commission is made from this.
You could generate traffic through advertising or if perhaps your website is niche about a certain product, for example holidays in Peru. You could then ensure the SEO is fully optimised so when someone who is specifically researching about going on holiday in Peru, your site will be one of the first to show up on a search engine like google. They click on your website which has information on this subject along with affiliate links to airlines, tour operators, even travel books on Amazon.
My Favorite Affiliate programs are:
- Amazon Associate
Also lots of individual companies now have affiliate links to promote.
So you could adapt affiliate marketing to earn money online through different ways. Like number 15, having your own affiliate website.
The purpose of case study approach above was to discuss on a focused basis on latest techniques which have been relevant and in use in National and International Markets.
There are also several local-based ideas which can help kids/youngsters learn tricks of the trade and practise key factors needed to be kept in mind while working on practical world:
- Pet-Sitting is a great money-making idea for those who love animals. You can mind animals while their owners are on vacation or even at work.
- Lawn care may be of interest if you love the outdoors. Just three or four lawns per week could net you $100 or more.
- Rent out your unused car for use to taxi-hailing service like OLA and MERU CABS.
- Have a garage sale to get rid of unwanted items. Plan a neighborhood sale with those on your block to gain more interest.
- Sell your junk mail for refund.
- Take up freelance jobs with assistance from social groups.
- Participate in online surveys.
- Set up Print on demand website
- Set up an online marketplace for local businessmen.
TIPS TO CONSIDER BEFORE TAKING WORK AT HOME JOBS
Determine your needs.
Remote jobs come in a variety of options: part-time or full-time schedules, freelance or employee status, alternative or flexible schedules, occasional, and long-term or short-term options. Evaluate your financial situation and your time availability to determine what kind of job you need. This information can expedite your job search by weeding out the options that won’t work for your life.
Prepare a workspace.
Getting a home office together, even before you start your job search, is a wise idea. If you get to the interview stage for a potential remote job, it’s likely the interviewer will want to know about your home office space. Having a dedicated space to work already set up will help show you’re ready to work remotely and will also help you get started more quickly once you do land a work-from-home job.
Use the right resources.
Scams do abound in the remote work world. Use the proper job boards to help ensure your success. FlexJobs has 10 years of experience vetting and verifying legitimate remote jobs for job seekers. We guarantee you won’t find any scams on our site, and we feature remote jobs in over 50 career categories. Using the right job searching resource can likely cut down on your searching time by avoiding scams and dead-end postings.
Plan your day.
This will help you minimize your distractions and maximize your true productive times, Spence says. “For example, many people eat a small breakfast on their way to the office, but when at home, you may be tempted to have a bigger breakfast which may slow you down for your early morning meeting. Or you may normally get off at 5 pm, but the kids come home at 4 pm, so you may need a shorter lunch so you can get all of your work done.”
Be computer savvy.
Since the majority of your work will be done on your computer, you will need to be computer savvy. You should know everything from learning how to use different software, to updating programs and keeping your computer running smoothly, Hanna says. “A broken down computer or Internet connection equals no work getting done, so you will be need to be able to navigate your way around tech issues and concerns.”
Avoid home distractions.
Pets, TV and family members are just a few other distractions you’ll encounter when you start working at home, Hanna says. Planning ahead will be key. “Having readily available snacks for consumption, planning children’s activities or child care in advance, and having a separate office space can all help minimize distractions, but ultimately it is up to you to stay focused.”
Limit the number of times you check e-mail.
You might find yourself constantly checking e-mail because you’re worried about being out of the loop—but while it’s important to stay connected, spending too much time on e-mail might distract you from more important tasks, Kanarek says.
Brush up on your communication skills.
Because you’ll be doing your work remotely, you’ll need to have excellent communication skills. Often times you won’t have the visual and verbal cues that normally help guide a conversation, Hanna says. “Although cell phones, instant message, and software like Skype make it easy for people to stay in touch, the majority of your communication will be done via e-mail.” You will need to make sure that you are able to covey what you mean clearly and concisely.
Set office hours.
Make sure to create a time slot for each of the day’s activities. This helps with communicating to others when your work-time and play-time is, Hanna says. “If you have small children you may need to schedule your work around their naps or another caregiver’s schedule, so that you can have a good chunk of time to work uninterrupted.
Money is an essential commodity everyone is in need in today’s society. Its not that jobs are not available, the thing is getting a job depends on two factors: how you perform in Interview and your overall academic performance. Once you get it, the problem is increment which depends entirely on external factors which are beyond your control. While some manage to get a decent increment after a year’s performance, others are left to struggle out for a seemingly useless cause which only gives you a monetary pleasure.
Having a firm of your own not only gives you a creative pleasure, it also sends out a message to the so-called “Professional” community out there about your credibility (How they are seriously an Idiot which they really are in not recruiting you). Although, there are cons still you can live the rest of your life thinking that you have created jobs for several people.
Coming to the monetary side, with increase in cost of living forcing people to shift homes, the only way is to use your other skills to earn money through alternative means till you get decent increment in your current job. Use your passion to make a life for yourself and your family.
